Mimi is a dreamer, adventurer, artist, and animal lover, as well as a wife, devoted mother of two, and a loyal friend. Born and raised in the Lower East Side of New York City, Mimi is a third-generation trained jeweler who spent countless hours exploring rare gemstones and learning the craftsmanship of fine jewelry in her parents' atelier. Mimi’s early introduction to the discipline honed her business acumen of a predominately male industry while her upbringing in a diverse, creative neighborhood – where Mimi spent her days surrounded by the energy of Latin music, boisterous basketball courts, and the unique vernacular of raw, urban street style – helped harness her own innate creativity and personal style. With a deep understanding of and appreciation for the art of design, Mimi went on to pursue a career in the field, starting with her studies at Parsons School of Design.

In 1993, at the age of twenty-two, Mimi opened a shop on 47th street in the heart of New York’s Diamond District, a tough crowd for a young, minority, female business owner. Proving fearless and determined, Mimi gained recognition for her unique vision and exceptional craftsmanship and launched her namesake brand in 1998. Iconic American retailer Neiman Marcus soon took note of Mimi’s trailblazing designs and introduced her within their roster of top designers. By 2002, Mimi’s designs were being sold at more than a dozen Neiman Marcus locations across the country.

From there, Mimi’s distinct point of view caught the eye of Mr. Johann Rupert, Chairman of luxury conglomerate Richemont, who recognized her potential to develop a legacy design house and crowned her eponymous brand the firm’s first American jewelry investment. Two years into the seven-year agreement, Richemont offered to exercise its option to purchase a majority stake in the brand. Always the tenacious businesswoman, Mimi declined the offer and opted to grow the company on her own, authentically, and in stride with her personal vision of a veritable lifestyle brand.

In testament to her success, in 2007 Mimi was the first female fine jewelry designer inducted into the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) — the “hall of fame” for American fashion designers – where she later served on its admission board, executive board, and ultimately as treasurer for six years. Mimi is currently an Emeritus Board member of the CFDA, passionate about mentoring and guiding young designers when needed.
